USEFUL DIY (Do It Yourself) INFORMATION

SOLDERING TUTORIAL
One of the questions that we are asked most often is "How can I be sure that I can handle a DIY project?". The answer is easily yes provided you have acquired the skill of soldering. Following the tradition set by the Dynaco and Heathkit assembly manuals, we have authored a Soldering Tutorial to help you advance your skills or simply to help you determine if you wish to try. If after you review it you still have doubts please feel free to call or e-mail and we can discuss any issues you have have.

ESSENTIAL TOOLS & TEST EQUIPMENT
Over the years we have acquired a quite significant collection of tools and test equipment. Most are used occasionally but there are several items that are indispensable. We have authored our Useful Tools & Test Equipment Tech Note which discusses this topic and provides both the list of tools and equipment that I find both essential and some that are simply nice to have.

PASSIVE PREAMP PROJECT
We frequently get calls form audiophiles interested in one of our preamps. During our discussion we like to know a little about your equipment and musical tastes and as a result it sometimes becomes evident that a preamp may not really be necessary - at least not an active preamp. In many cases we recommend the use of a passive preamp which in some circumstances will not only sound better (simpler is really better) but of course be much less expensive than its active counterpart. So, here it is: a high quality passive preamp that is very easy to construct for you. All of the parts specified are available form our recommended suppliers list.

It is very inexpensive (< $50 to $100) - so much so that if you have any doubt you may want to simply build it as an experiment. Or better yet call to discuss if you suspect that your system might be a candidate.

FAT FREE LINKS
Our list is hopefully fat free - limited to information that will support the DIY'er. That is it should lead you to information sources that will be valuable to your project building effort. Please feel free to contact me to add more sites to this list as you find them.
